MEET THE ARTIST —– Introducing Sheryl D'Ath.

A 52 year old 'Kiwi', happily married to her childhood sweetheart, Jeff, for 30 odd years.She has 3 daughters, Nicci (30), Gina (29) and Tammy (20). She also has 3 grandsons, Arlen 8, Jesse 6, Reef 3 and Number 4 grandchild due in February 2007. She also has 2 poodles who are her constant companions and sometimes ‘models for inspiration’, Jessie and her BIG BOY Baron.

She lives in Ruakaka, Northland. An idyllic beachside community, and develops many of her creations while sitting on her deck overlooking a river, race-horse training reserve and out to the nearby Hen and Chicken Islands in the Pacific Ocean, to the East of New Zealand.

Nicknamed 'Bells' by her husband, she has spent her whole life creating arty/crafty 'stuff'. Hence her trade name, 'Bells Stuff'. Her creations have included- paintings, soft-sculptured stocking dolls, porcelain dolls, sculpted clay dolls and many other things. About 13 years ago, she was ready for a change and decided to try her hand at Teddy Bears.

It wasn't long before she started creating her own patterns, trialling bigger tummy's, shorter legs and larger feet. However it was the bears faces that were to be her greatest achievement. The incorporation of her needle-sculpting and painting techniques to her open-mouthed bears did seem to make them stand out in the crowd.

Her motivation and creative inspiration hasn't seemed to wane in the slightest due to the increased demand for her bears. It seems that the pleasure gained from watching a new bear be 'born' and now the excuse that she 'has' to go and make bears, can prevent this hobby-turned-job, from becoming tedious.
